The Italian composer and virtuoso Domenico Dragonetti was one of the first to believe that the voice of the contrabass was not only beneficial in unison with the ‘higher’ instruments, but also worthy of a solo expression. He raised the instrument’s prestige and in his wake a whole pleiad of masters emerged in Italy who understood the specific nature of the contrabass. Among them was Giovanni Bottesini: he knew how to highlight the instrument in an orchestra.
The voice of this beautiful instrument will grace an evening of chamber music. The contrabass band of the Astana Opera Orchestra will perform solo and ensemble numbers from the classical and national repertoire and put the audience in a great mood.
